Printing is the most technically difficult aspect of fine art photography. The challenge is to translate all of the potential of a carefully visualized and properly exposed high-resolution digital file into a physical print that will really "sing".
All of the classic technical adjustment options of the traditional "wet" darkroom are now available to the digital photographer on the computer. And more. For me, the greatest advantage of digital image processing is in increased freedom to expand and refine the development process in order to find new and different ways to bring an image closer to what I saw and felt when I took the picture.
The new generation of digital printers have achieved a level of accuracy that was unthinkable just ten years ago and the paper/ink combinations now available provide for print stability that ranges from 75 to 200 years before any measureable change.
The overall result is that it is now possible to digitally produce extremely elegant, highly detailed and long lasting prints that rival any traditional printing method.
